TIME PASSAGES @ ELSE
This review details 5 aspects of an event: Sound, Crowd, Smoking Area, Lighting, and the Artist.
Time Passages is the record label created by legendary DJ and producer Binh which has seen releases from the likes of Evan Baggs, Omar, Z@P and Binh himself. The time passages party at ELSE was the launch of their new Time Passages X series.
Line Up: Binh, DJ Hell, Jane fitz, Nicolas Lutz and OMAR (UY).
Venue: ELSE Berlin.
Sound: 8.5/10.
The sound at Else is really crisp and powerful in the courtyard they have the a large Funktion one set up with big booth monitors too. Even standing at the back the sound is good throughout the courtyard. As for when it gets dark and the party moves in the sound was even more full and powerful.
Crowd: 9/10
The crowd at Else for the time passages party was really friendly. I went to this one alone and met some lovely people to dance and chat with. I found a nice group of girls from the Netherlands who had great dancing energy so stuck with them until they left. Then later on chatting with an Irish guy bonding over watching Binh close the inside room was special. This for me is what makes a party so special is all the people who are there to listen to and dance to the brilliant music being played.
Smoking Area: 10/10
The smoking area category does apply in Berlin even though you can have a cigarette anywhere. It is more the area for chilling out and giving the legs a break. There is a terrace over looking the river with seats and tables as well as one that looks over the court yard dance-floor. Making the chill spaces when you want a little break from the dance top notch. I think a lot of the clubs in Berlin will score high on this category and the production that goes into the clubs out here is a very high level.
Lights 7/10
The lights in Else are good too similar to other club light set ups. Nothing to write home about but decent strobe and colours making it feel like a proper party.
Artists 10/10
First DJ I saw was DJ hell who was shelling electro techno and wonderful beats in the courtyard. Sadly I missed seeing Nicolas Lutz this time.
Next enter the great Jane Fitz who played a range of breaks electro and the most tasteful techno for everyone’s listening pleasure. First time seeing her live and definitely did not disappoint. What an amazing selector she is.
Then we moved inside and saw OMAR (UY) who continued the vibe inside mixing vinyl flawlessly displaying a great range of electro and techno.
Finally closing off the evening was the legendary Binh who I also got to see for the first time. I was stood next to a guy from Ireland and almost every track he played we turned to each other and had what a track face. A truly special evening of amazing music and artists displaying their craft to the highest level. Fast forward a month and I’ve already been back to Else for another sick event.
More recently I went to a Fundraiser for Palestine where I saw Big Ever, Lone (Live) and then Ross From Friends closed down the outside area with a truly special set most notably blending Flight FM - Joy Orbison song with Madonna - Like a Prayer this made everyone including myself go absolutely crazy head banging and jumping around. It was soo high energy Harry and I decided to leave on a high note as we had both been out the night before too.
